Rameshwaram
Varanasi of South India
Held in high esteem, Rameshwaram is a famous pilgrimage center of the Hindus. Occupying a superb location on an island in the Ramamathapuram district of Tamil Nadu, Rameshwaram is situated at a mere distance of 40 km from Srilanka. It is believed that a pilgrimage to Kashi(one of the most revered pilgrimage ) is incomplete without a pilgrimage to Rameshwaram. Rameshwaram is a pious place where Lord Rama worshiped Lord Shiva. Another religious importance of Rameshwaram is that Lord Rama built a bridge known as Ram Setu at Rameshwaram to cross over to Sri Lanka.
